You can try but you never know what you've got Inside your dying its a cold shot In the moment she leaves then you really know You gotta take a minute let your feelings show Another bar in the dark sitting all alone Looking out the window waiting for the phone This bottle of whiskey can't kill the pain Passing time til she comes back home again Nobodys an island all by himself A lonely picture on the shelf Waiting for love to come back home In a while Im on this island its gettng worse This lonely picture its a bitter curse Waiting for love to come around Pass a bottle or two I need another shot Keep it coming 'cos I know its gonna take a lot Another whiskey wont make it alright Passing time just get me through another night Nobodys an island all by himself A lonely picture on the shelf Waiting for love to come back m on this island its gettng worse This lonely picture its a bitter curse Waiting for love to come back home

I thought that I was dreaming, it took me by surprise To find you there beside me when I opened up my eyes I won’t ask for a reason, I won’t beg you to stay We were passing strangers, we went our separate ways Ch Nothing to do with love A moment in time and time moved on Nothing to do with love Now the feeling’s gone I don’t know where you came from, I know I don’t care We touched for an instant and left our feelings there No need to ask questions, no need to tell lies You were gone before the dawn, didn’t stop to say goodbye Ch Nothing to do with love A moment in time and time moved on Nothing to do with love Now the feeling’s gone

Dont let me hear you put yourself down Dont let me hear you beg You're worth much more than all of them Get that ideal into your head Dont sell yourself cheap you get what you came for Your only worth as much as you feel Dont sell yourself cheap take and take more Dont live your life on the raw end of the deal When you turn to face the world Dont let them take you easy They may say do this and they say do that Say I do what I like when it pleases me Dont sell yourself .... Don’t wanna hear you’ve missed your chance, Don’t wanna see you’re leaving, You only get one shot at life, You gotta keep believing Dont sell yourself ...

I was standing in the doorway, she was standing in the rain Looking for some shelter, asking my name And as she spoke to me, you know I hung on every word I knew in a moment, this was something good We couldn’t help ourselves, even if we should First impressions count for so much, at least that’s what I’ve heard I was the boy with the road in his blood I was the man with the hungry heart Now I just wanna be wherever you are She came out of the blue, I wasn’t looking for love, that’s true Love came looking, love came looking for me She gave me her number, I wrote it on the wall Couldn’t wait another day just to hear her call Now I’d found her I couldn’t let her get away She tamed the wild side of me She’s got my heart in her hands If you’d asked, this is nothing that I would have planned She came out of the rain, and my life would never be the same Love came looking, love came looking for me She came out of the blue, I wasn’t looking for love, that’s true Love came looking, love came looking for me She came out of the rain, and my life would never be the same Love came looking, love came looking for me Love came looking, came looking for me I was standing in the doorway, you were standing in the rain

When we were just sixteen and not long out of school We thought our whole lives lay ahead Every night out watching all the bands we thought were cool Thinking that it could be us instead Ch When we were young we had fire in our veins We never needed any plans When we were young, never needed to explain We thought we had the whole world in our hands And every jukebox playing all our favourite songs And every corner record store Had everything we thought we’d ever need to get along We thought we’d never ever want for more Ch When we were young we had fire in our veins We never needed any plans When we were young, never needed to explain We thought we had the whole world in our hands Ch When we were young we had fire in our veins We never needed any plans When we were young, never needed to explain We thought we had the whole world in our hands

about

The Alibi are a five-piece classic rock band whose members have been active on England’s South coast live circuit in various acts since the mid-70s. For the first time in almost thirty years they have moved away from playing covers to start producing original material, influenced by the bands they listened to in their youth and over the years since, giving their music a distinct 70s feel with a modern edge. This is music from the age of black vinyl; think Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, early Whitesnake, Aerosmith and even some later bands like Gun and Thunder. Expect lots of vocal harmonies and a large helping of their trademark twin lead guitars which have become such an integral part of their sound.

Having been busy playing and building on their reputation as a great live act, the band weren’t going to sit back and do nothing during 2020’s lockdown so embarked on a series of YouTube videos on their channel thealibiuk which quickly racked up several thousand views and started attracting interest from radio stations asking for some self-penned songs to put on air. After initially rearranging two songs from bands they played in back in the 80s and 90s, they were so pleased with the results that the idea of recording something brand new came up and the resulting mini album ‘Uncovered’ was underway.
This is an exciting and unexpected new chapter in the band’s history. Members of The Alibi have all played in successful live acts, made TV and radio appearances, supported some big names, appeared at top London venues, had rave reviews in the national music press and have a long history of recorded works. It’s a great opportunity to once again write and record some new songs which the band feel are a reflection of their shared history and influences up to now.

The Alibi are: Steve Gibbs (vocals), Mike Johns (guitar and backing vocals), Malcolm ‘Max’ MacDonald (guitar and backing vocals), Alan Webb (bass and backing vocals) and Graham Simcox (drums)

Special thanks to: Lewis Johns for all his help with recording and mastering, Elly Rose Photography for her work on our lockdown videos and live photography, and to Paul ‘Benny’ Lillywhite for all the years of great live sound.
